the brief

collaboration goals

  • High-end Aesthetic

The design should feel more premium, both complementing and elevating a space.

  • Emphasize Parla’s Identity

The design should still fit in Parla’s portfolio of products.

  • Visual Contrast

The design should seek to disrupt the geometric form of the Tofu Table.

ideation

Sketch sheet of side table ideas (ribbed fabric, chunky knit, bent pipe, wave split, air gap) alongside concept renders in scalloped wood, granite, a glass-top speaker table and a speaker base

refinement

The asymmetric concept was the favorite of Parla’s design team.

asymmetric

Asymmetric concept: two tables with an ash top, walnut trim, an asymmetric walnut wave pattern and an aluminium base

floating

Floating concept: ash wood top with ceramic trim, wooden dowels lifting the body above an asymmetric wave ceramic base

glowing

Glowing concept: illuminated creased paper between the wooden body and an asymmetric wave base on aluminium
